Quick answer: The Wegovy pill costs $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 and 25 mg through Novo Nordisk's NovoCare Pharmacy self-pay, with no insurance needed (prices checked Oct 20, 2026). One month is one bottle of 30 tablets, delivered free. The list price is $1,349.02 per package.
- Commercial insurance that covers it: as little as $25 a month with the savings offer (maximum savings $100 a month).
- Medicare: $50 a month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, if you're eligible (July 1, 2026 to Dec 31, 2027).
- First year self-pay: about $3,338 following the label's dose steps (our arithmetic).
- Vs the pen: the Wegovy pen is $349 a month self-pay ($199 for a new patient's first 2 fills).
The Wegovy pill is FDA-approved for weight reduction and for lowering heart attack and stroke risk in adults; a prescription is required.
Wegovy pill cost by dose (October 2026)
The price climbs with the dose. These are Novo Nordisk's own prices with the date we checked them, next to what you'd pay with insurance or Medicare.
| Dose | When on the label | NovoCare self-pay | With commercial insurance | Medicare GLP-1 Bridge | A year at this dose |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mg | Days 1–30 (starting dose) | $149/mo | As little as $25 (card pays up to $100/mo) | $50/mo if eligible | $1,788 |
| 4 mg | Days 31–60 | $199/mo | As little as $25 (card pays up to $100/mo) | $50/mo if eligible | $2,388 |
| 9 mg | Days 61–90 | $299/mo | As little as $25 (card pays up to $100/mo) | $50/mo if eligible | $3,588 |
| 25 mg | Day 91 on (maintenance) | $299/mo | As little as $25 (card pays up to $100/mo) | $50/mo if eligible | $3,588 |
Self-pay purchases are made outside insurance and don't count toward a deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. Novo Nordisk says it may modify or cancel these programs at any time; NovoCare's checkout is the final word on price. Some older pages still show a $149 price for 4 mg: that offer ended, and NovoCare listed 4 mg at $199 on Oct 20, 2026.
How much is the Wegovy pill per year?
The FDA label starts the pill at 1.5 mg once daily for 30 days, then steps up every 30 days through 4 mg and 9 mg to the 25 mg maintenance dose (Wegovy prescribing information, revised 06/2026). Your prescriber may hold you at a dose longer. Our arithmetic for 12 bottles at today's prices:
- NovoCare self-pay, following the label's steps: $149 + $199 + $299, then 9 bottles at $299 = $3,338.
- List price: $16,188.24 for 12 packages.
- Covered, with the savings card: as little as $300 (12 months at $25) if your copay stays within the card's $100 monthly savings.
- Medicare GLP-1 Bridge: $600 for 12 months at $50, while the program runs.
Add the prescriber visit: NovoCare fills a prescription, it doesn't write one.
Wegovy pill with insurance: the $25 savings offer
- Your commercial plan covers the Wegovy pill: Novo Nordisk's savings offer lets you pay as little as $25 a month, with a maximum savings of $100 a month. If your copay is higher than $125, you pay the difference.
- The fine print: government beneficiaries are excluded (Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, VA). Eligibility and restrictions apply, and you need a prescription.
- Your plan doesn't cover it: NovoCare self-pay ($149 to $299 a month) is Novo Nordisk's published price; no copay card is needed for it.
- FSA and HSA: NovoCare accepts FSA and HSA cards, and prescribed medication can be a medical expense under IRS Publication 502. Confirm with your plan administrator.
Plans that cover weight-loss drugs often require prior authorization. See how to get a GLP-1 covered by insurance.
Does Medicare or Medicaid cover the Wegovy pill?
Medicare: the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge covers Wegovy, injection or tablet, for a $50 copay per one-month supply for eligible Part D members, from July 1, 2026 to Dec 31, 2027 (CMS, checked Oct 20, 2026). You must be 18 or older and meet a BMI threshold (35 or higher, or lower with certain conditions such as heart failure, prediabetes or a prior heart attack or stroke), and your prescriber must request prior authorization. People who have type 2 diabetes, or whose Part D plan already covers a GLP-1, aren't eligible for the Bridge. Medicaid: each state decides whether it covers weight-loss drugs, so check your state plan. Novo Nordisk's savings card can't be used with either program.
Where to buy the Wegovy pill
- NovoCare Pharmacy (Novo Nordisk): self-pay $149 to $299 a month, free home delivery, a 90-day supply if your prescriber writes one. Your prescriber sends the prescription; you get a text to set up the account and pay (NovoCare Wegovy).
- Retail pharmacies: use your insurance and the savings card, or ask for the cash price. TrumpRx.gov offers a self-pay coupon for retail pharmacies that dispense the pill, showing the $1,349.02 list price for a 30-tablet bottle and a dose-dependent coupon price.
- Amazon Pharmacy: lists Wegovy tablets; the price appears at checkout.
- Telehealth: several platforms prescribe the pill and add their own membership on top of the medication. Our GLP-1 price comparison lists those all-in totals with dates.
Wegovy pill vs the pen, the Ozempic pill, Foundayo and compounded semaglutide
| Product | FDA status | Starting dose | Higher doses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy pill (daily tablet) | FDA-approved for weight reduction and heart-risk reduction | $149/mo at 1.5 mg | $199 at 4 mg; $299 at 9 and 25 mg |
| Wegovy pen (weekly injection) | FDA-approved for weight reduction and heart-risk reduction | $199 for a new patient's first 2 fills at 0.25 or 0.5 mg (through Dec 31, 2026), then $349 | $349 up to 2.4 mg; $399 for Wegovy HD 7.2 mg |
| Ozempic pill (daily tablet) | FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss | $149/mo at 1.5 mg | $199 at 4 mg; $299 at 9 mg |
| Foundayo (orforglipron, daily tablet) | FDA-approved for chronic weight management | $149/mo at 0.8 mg | Rises with the dose; see Foundayo cost by dose |
| Zepbound (weekly injection) | FDA-approved for chronic weight management | $299/mo at 2.5 mg (vial) | Rises with the dose |
| Compounded semaglutide (weekly injection) | Not FDA-approved | $99–$324/mo all-in across 15 providers | Same at some sellers; rises at others |
- Pill vs pen: at full price a first year is about $3,338 on the pill and $4,188 on the pen ($3,888 for a new patient using the pen's two $199 fills), our arithmetic. The pill costs less at every dose, but must be taken every morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of water, waiting at least 30 minutes before eating.
- Ozempic pill: the same molecule at the same three self-pay prices (NovoCare price guide), but it is approved for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss.
- Foundayo: Eli Lilly's daily GLP-1 pill also starts at $149 and can be taken with or without food. Its dose-by-dose prices are in what Foundayo costs.
- Compounded semaglutide: $99 to $324 a month all-in across the 15 providers in our dataset (checked Oct 20, 2026). It is not FDA-approved, has not been reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality (FDA's compounding overview), and is not the same as the Wegovy pill. Seller by seller, see compounded semaglutide cost.

Is there a generic Wegovy pill?
No. Semaglutide tablets for weight loss are sold only as Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill, which the FDA approved in December 2025 (Novo Nordisk, Dec 22, 2025; FDA label). Compounded oral or sublingual semaglutide sold online is not FDA-approved and is not a generic version of the Wegovy pill.
Frequently asked questions

Through NovoCare Pharmacy self-pay, the Wegovy pill costs $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 and 25 mg (one bottle of 30 tablets), as of Oct 20, 2026. The list price is $1,349.02 per package.
What is the price of the Wegovy weight loss pill?
$149 to $299 a month self-pay, depending on the dose, through Novo Nordisk's NovoCare Pharmacy (checked Oct 20, 2026). With commercial insurance that covers it, the savings offer can bring it to as little as $25 a month.
How much will the new Wegovy pills cost?
The Wegovy pill is already on sale: $149 a month at the 1.5 mg starting dose, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 and 25 mg self-pay (NovoCare, Oct 20, 2026). Novo Nordisk says it may change or cancel these prices at any time.
Can I get Wegovy pills without insurance?
Yes, with a prescription. NovoCare Pharmacy sells them self-pay from $149 a month with free home delivery, and the purchase is made outside insurance, so it doesn't count toward a deductible.
How much is the Wegovy pill at CVS without insurance?
Retail pharmacies set their own cash prices and don't publish them, so ask the pharmacy before you fill. Novo Nordisk's published self-pay price is $149 to $299 a month through NovoCare Pharmacy, and TrumpRx.gov offers a self-pay coupon for retail pharmacies that dispense the pill.
Will Wegovy pill be cheaper than injection?
At the starting dose, yes: the pill is $149 a month versus $349 for the pen ($199 for a new patient's first 2 fills). At 9 and 25 mg the pill is $299, still $50 below the pen's $349, so a first year comes to about $3,338 for the pill and $4,188 for the pen at full price (our arithmetic).
How do you get Wegovy for $25 a month?
You need commercial insurance that covers Wegovy plus Novo Nordisk's savings offer: pay as little as $25, with a maximum savings of $100 a month. People on Medicare, Medicaid or another government program are excluded.
How does the Wegovy savings card work?
With commercial insurance, the card lowers your copay to as little as $25 a month; it covers up to $100 of savings a month, so a higher copay leaves you paying the difference. Text SAVE to 83757 or sign up on Wegovy.com; government beneficiaries can't use it.
Does insurance cover the Wegovy pill?
Some commercial plans do, often with prior authorization; coverage for weight-loss drugs varies by plan and employer. Check your formulary, and if it is covered, add the savings card.
Does Medicare cover the Wegovy pill?
Through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, eligible Part D members can get Wegovy, injection or tablet, for a $50 monthly copay from July 1, 2026 to Dec 31, 2027. Eligibility depends on BMI and certain health conditions, and your prescriber must request prior authorization.
Wegovy pill vs Foundayo cost?
Both start at $149 a month self-pay: the Wegovy pill at 1.5 mg and Foundayo at 0.8 mg. Both rise with the dose; the Wegovy pill reaches $299 at 9 mg.
Is there a generic Wegovy pill?
No: the Wegovy pill (semaglutide tablets) is sold only as the brand from Novo Nordisk. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved and is not a generic or the same as Wegovy.
Is semaglutide weekly or monthly?
Neither form is monthly. The Wegovy pen is a once-weekly injection and the Wegovy pill is a once-daily tablet; prices are quoted per month of supply.
Who makes Wegovy?
Novo Nordisk makes Wegovy, both the weekly pen and the daily pill, and sells it self-pay through its NovoCare Pharmacy.
