How do you convert a semaglutide dose from mg to units?

Divide your semaglutide dose in milligrams by the vial’s concentration in mg/mL to get milliliters, then multiply by 100 — a U-100 insulin syringe holds 100 units per milliliter. Example: a 0.25 mg starting dose from a 2.5 mg/mL vial is 0.1 mL, which reads as 10 units on the syringe. Compounded semaglutide vials are commonly dispensed at 1, 2, 2.5, 5, or 10 mg/mL, so the identical dose can be anywhere from 2.5 to 25 units depending on the vial — always work from the concentration printed on your pharmacy label. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved and is not therapeutically equivalent to Wegovy or Ozempic, which come in fixed-dose pens.

Why this matters

Small doses, small draws, small margin for error

Semaglutide starts at 0.25 mg — at some concentrations that’s a draw of just a few units, a couple of millimeters on the syringe. At that scale, reading the wrong concentration off a forum instead of your own label doesn’t produce a small error; it produces a multiple of your dose.

Units measure volume, not medication. If your pharmacy changes concentration between refills — which happens — the same prescribed dose becomes a different units number. Recheck the label every time, and when a draw looks different from last month, stop and ask your pharmacy before injecting.

How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?

It depends on your vial’s concentration. On a U-100 insulin syringe, 0.25 mg is 25 units from a 1 mg/mL vial, 12.5 units from a 2 mg/mL vial, 10 units from a 2.5 mg/mL vial, 5 units from a 5 mg/mL vial, and 2.5 units from a 10 mg/mL vial. Draws that small are hard to measure precisely — ask your pharmacy what syringe size fits your prescription.

10 units of semaglutide is how many mg?

Ten units is always 0.1 mL — but the milligrams depend on the concentration. From a 2.5 mg/mL vial, 10 units is 0.25 mg; from a 5 mg/mL vial it’s 0.5 mg; from a 10 mg/mL vial it’s a full 1 mg. Same syringe marking, three very different doses — which is why the vial label matters more than the units number.

How many units are in 1 mL of semaglutide?

On a U-100 insulin syringe, 1 mL is 100 units — the scale divides every milliliter into 100 units. That’s volume, not medication: how many milligrams those 100 units contain depends entirely on the vial’s mg/mL concentration.

Is compounded semaglutide the same as Wegovy or Ozempic?

No. Wegovy and Ozempic are FDA-approved brand medications in fixed-dose pens — including the higher-dose 7.2 mg Wegovy pen the FDA approved in March 2026 — so there’s nothing to convert. Compounded semaglutide is prepared by state-licensed compounding pharmacies, usually as a multi-dose vial you draw with a syringe; it is not FDA-approved and is not therapeutically equivalent to the brand products.
